Agenda

Proposed Agenda for 2/13/25 OIDS Working Group.

Note: Original items in regular font - follow-up comments/updates in blue.

  1. Opening Remarks/Agenda - Antitrust statement – Jenny

  2. Status on White Paper –Review draft of White Paper version as of 2/13 – Peter

    1. Will we have white paper draft for final review by 2/14? This is tomorrow; per JT we should be very close at this point.

  i.  Peter updated figures to match the styling requirements discussed in 2/10 meeting. PA worked on this recently - the plan is for the group to discuss it in detail on 2/20 (as Monday the group will be out for the MLK holiday). Specifically.

-Stronger sales pitch at top of paper is needed . . draw needed to get folks to read paper.

-Labels have been added to the first three diagrams, and the boxes have been removed from them.

-The comments have been cleaned up on the side

-The current state diagram has been revamped to deliberately reflect the chaos and confusion and laboriousness of the current state of data sharing/standards in the insurance industry. The shapes and colors may still be tweaked as well - this is being considered:

-Cory Issacson (CI) has requested, in the comments field, a second diagram, with multiple systems on the Carrier A side and multiple parties on the receiving side. (See Action Items, below).

-The current tentative plan is to keep Figures 1-3 in the same order, add the new diagram that Cory referenced/requested as Figure 4, and move the above green current state diagram to figure 5.

ii.  Cory is reviewing the problem statement and will draft additional paragraph to bring that all together.  - The value statement is is underway and close to completion; Cory is currently making edits.

iii.  Rob said he will have the section on the data models ready for review Thursday.   *** this is a major piece  *** - No major updates on this at this time - work is ongoing.

iv. Integrate phrasing from Press releases into the language of the white paper - Jenny will work with Lanaya/Marcom for assistance with this.

  v. Future Prospects section – need to add a reference back to value prop 2.6, and re state that competition and open standards breeds innovation. Peter/Ken by 2/24

vi.      Sean – review with the WG sections he added & add working links to section - Was asked to present/run through a summation of his own work at the white paper working group on Monday February 24.

vii. Third party vendors need to be added.

Ken Sayers (KS) stressed the need for a ‘Draw Me in Statement’ right at the outset of the paper. In other words, a statement that answers the questions, why should I bother? Why do I want to read this paper? KS feels this should be right to the top at the paper - the paper needs a stronger sell.

Ken noted that he spoke with Werner and learned that the Data Problem Paper will be a focused socialization with people- c-level folks, etc. These executives will talk to their data folks, who say, you need to go read this white paper.

  1. Data Standards Working Group - CLA/LF/AAIS – DEFINE & ASSIGN

    1. LF to provide examples of other standards & how they are managed

    2. Status of IP from CLA & governance on the standard (i.e. what % does the Core Model cover HO stat plan fields required & what extensions may be necessary)

The Linux Foundation team has had several internal conversations and a conversation with the Cloverleaf Team about what lies ahead. The current plan is to do a Data Standards Working Group as soon as the White Paper Working Group finishes up. The Data Standards WG will draw on the efforts of individuals from contributing organizations who are sophisticated on the data standards side. The openIDL will create and provide the framework necessary for this working group. The current ask is for AAIS, Cloverleaf & reThought to think through who from their teams they want to contribute.

The contribution of IP from Cloverleaf is the ideal starting point.

The group will be driven by Linux Foundation/JDF, and will start with a much lighter/looser standard, but if the insurance industry wants a more rigid standard, the group can do that. The community standards development process - a lean quick process to get as much done as quickly as possible - is an ideal place to start. This would also be a place to reach back out to the Hartford, the Travelers, and other organizations that are interested in being involved.

The Data Standards working group is tentatively slated to begin in early-mid March.

LF needs provide examples of other standards and how they are managed

  • Stakeholders within organizations that are SMEs in standards

    • CLA / Rethought / AAIS

      • CLA IP is starting point for data standard

      • Appropriate data standards working group – light model

      • LF will drive framework

      • Skill sets for being on data standard team:

        • Bandwidth and working knowledge of insurance data and standards.

        • Start having conversations with the HIG, Travelers, etc.

      • Looking to start for Data Standard working group in March

      • AI for all teams is to identify folks they want to be included in data standard working group.

JT stressed the need to integrate the material from the press releases into the white paper to get a consistent phraseology/message/thread throughout.

Proof of concepts for reg reporting

AAIS reg reporting phase 2 POC is in progress and wrapping up by early March

This is moving along with great collaboration between the AAIS and Cloverleaf teams; great progress is being made; they are finalizing the datasets and ready to get into the pyramid and finalizing their acceptance criteria for Phase 2, which they plan to share. There are also outstanding conversations happening about partnering and how the teams will work together.

reThought’s Bordereau reporting POC hasn’t started yet, but will soon; reThought has been talking to Arch (reThought’s main character) about participating, and they are very interested.

Marketing updates - Lanaya

Lanaya Nelson (LN) created and previously shared a spreadsheet with the metrics from the posts she put on linkedin and other social media outlets. From here on out, she’s planning to release weekly content on social media with calls to action, to keep people engaged and interested.

LN also shared hits on Open IDS / Open IDL web page.

LN: has had several positive, encouraging conversations with Daniel Turgel from Norman Max. Turgel is also the founder of InsureTech Denver. InsureTech New York has an MGA specific program; Josh and Lanaya have been talking about ways to leverage that program by presenting in front of that group. Daniel and his team members plan to join future working group calls. Daniel has a broad cross-industry network of insurers and reinsurers who he wants to involve in this group’s effort. Norman Max is a leader in CAT modeling for parametrics.

Action Items

AAIS team: Add a second diagram to the white paper, per Cory’s request, with multiple systems on the Carrier A side and multiple parties on the receiving side. Regarding image updates: Cory Issacson (CI) has requested, in the comments field, a second diagram, with multiple systems on the Carrier A side and multiple parties on the receiving side. (See Action Items, below). The current tentative plan - per Peter’s suggestion - is to keep Figures 1-3 in the same order, add the new diagram that Cory referenced/requested as Figure 4, and move the above green current state diagram to figure 5.

AAIS Team: Per Ken’s request - work on a ‘draw me in statement’ at the outset, that effectively communicates to first-time readers why they should want to read the paper. Ken feels this should be right to the top at the paper - the paper needs a stronger sell.

AAIS Team: Review Cory’s contribution in Section 1 - The Limitations and Risks of Proprietary Data Formats - and provide critical feedback in the form of comments.

Cloverleaf Team Continue and finish work on the models section of the white paper. Email any content that needs to be reviewed to the AAIS team via Jenny Tornquist and Ken Sayers.

Sean Bohan - Plan to run through a summation/overview of your work at the white paper meeting on February 24; also connect with Ken offline - he has some feedback on what you’ve written.

Nathan Southern - Put an additional white paper working group meeting on the calendar for the same time, next Thu. 2/20. DONE.

Lanaya Nelson - Cancel white paper meeting on Mon. 2/17 - DONE.

Jenny Tornquist and Lanaya Nelson - Connect off-meeting about integrating press release content into the white paper - to get a consistent phraseology and messaging thread. Note: they will be meeting on Wed. Feb. 19.

All Workstream Contributors: Please review the white paper in its current state and provide feedback by adding comments.

Contributing Member Companies: Please determine who on your teams you would like to contribute to the Data Standards Working Group that is to be formed.

Ken: Reach out to Werner and consult with him about the timing and strategy for reaching out to The Hartford and pulling them into the data standards conversation.
